Here are some suggestions for local walks. There are stiles on all of them and in wet weather they can be very muddy.

Please follow the country code, close all gates and keep dogs under close control.

Walk 1 ~ Great Wolford to Barton on the Heath ~ 3.5 miles

From Great Wolford, walk past the Church across the field to Nethercote. turn left onto the lane and cross Nethercote bridge. Continue up the hill until after about 300 yards you find a path across the centre of a field on your right. Follow the signposts (along the borders of several fields) until you cross Nethercote brook, at which point you start to climb again towards Barton. When you reach the lane at Home Farm, turn right and right again, which will bring you back to Wolford.

Walk 2 ~ Great Wolford to Little Wolford ~ 3 miles

From Great Wolford, walk towards Todenham, but don't bear left with the road, continue straight ahead up the ridgeway (a well maintained track). At Red Barn turn right and follow the borders of several fields, past Red Mill and to the back of Broadmoor Farm. Turn right to join the road and follow it through Little Wolford, down the hill towards Great Wolford. Having crossed Nethercote Bridge bear right onto the footpath that takes you past Great Wolford Church.

Walk 3 ~ Great Wolford through Wolford Wood ~ 3 miles

From Great Wolford, walk towards Todenham, but as you descend the hill to leave the village, take the footpath on the left that passes several houses before bringing you across a stile into open fields. Continue in the same direction until you are skirting Wolford wood. There are several footpaths that will let you turn left into the wood - as long as you continue to walk south, you'll reach the lane, where you turn left, and back to Great Wolford.

Walk 4 ~ Great Wolford to Todenham ~ 3.5 miles

From Great Wolford, walk towards Todenham, but don't bear left with the road, continue straight ahead up the ridgeway (a well maintained track). At Red Barn turn left, and descend by the side of several fields walking always towards Todenham Church. When you reach Todenham, you can turn right to visit the church or the 'Farriers Arms' pub, or left, and left again, which will bring you back to Wolford
