Bed and Breakfast

View from Living Room Window, of the Island & up the loch.

Aurora is a purpose built bed and breakfast with spacious rooms (all en-suite shower) at the top of the picturesque village of Shieldaig - all the bedrooms enjoy fantastic views of the sea-loch and surrounding mountains. We enjoy great sunrises & sunsets helped by the clean, clear air and fabulous light.

We have en-suite double, twin and triple bedrooms with complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, along with many other extras such as hand made soap. Our rooms, during winter 2006, have been upgraded, re-carpeted and have new luxurious king & super-king pocket sprung beds. The beds split into singles giving flexibility for those who prefer twin beds. Similarly all the new bedding is equally luxurious with every thought regarding your comfort.

Guests are welcome to use our first floor living room which looks out over Shieldaig Island up the loch and out to sea. There are currently 2 white tailed sea eagles visiting the area. On a clear day we can see the northern tip of the Hebrides. The view of the sunset from the living room is probably the best in the village. We have a large TV with Sky, DVD player with DVD’s and a computer with broadband access, for guest use. There is a good selection of books, travel info and maps. We are always ready to help you get the most out of your time here.

Breakfast time is to suit our guests and freshly cooked to order. We pay special attention to sourcing local, good quality and where possible, organic produce.  The menu encompasses the traditional cooked, continental and lighter breakfasts with many homemade breads and preserves. Our 2 course evening meal is wholesome; country style home cooking at 7pm (needs to be pre-booked).

We are within easy walking distance of the shop, bar and restaurant. You can safely leave your car in our own private car park. Evening meals can be obtained 7 days a week in the village but eating before 8pm is recommended. We can provide a 2 course evening meal by prior arrangement.

May we suggest you make this more than just a one night stop en route between the Isle of Skye and Ullapool to savor the special feel of the area.

There is plenty to do and see in the area; seal or otter watching at the head of loch Shieldaig, visiting local beaches and sand dunes, walking around the gardens at Attadale and Inverewe or perhaps Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve and visitor centre.

Doing the amazing drive over the steepest road pass in Britain (the Bealach Na Ba) and around to Applecross could take up an afternoon combined with stopping at the various craft centers en route. There are plenty of good places to eat locally and in the surrounding area, the seafood being exceptional.
